Cuando no es necesario separar las cargas de la red con un transformador de aislamiento Dyn11, se puede utilizar un autotransformador generador de Neutro, definido impropiamente como autotransformador ya que, desde el punto de vista constructivo, es un reactor conectado en Zig-Zag. Cuando es necesario adaptar tambi\u00e9n la tensi\u00f3n de red (ej. de 220V a 400V trif\u00e1sica) es posible utilizar un aut\u00e9ntico autotransformador elevador con conexiones en simple Zig-Zag o cargas no lineales que absorben corrientes no sinusoidales, conteniendo un alto contenido arm\u00f3nico. Dichas cargas (rectificadores, inversores, etc.) pueden considerarse como generadores de corrientes arm\u00f3nicas que provocan ca\u00eddas en las impedancias de red deformando su tensi\u00f3n. El fen\u00f3meno es tanto m\u00e1s sensible cuanto m\u00e1s se acerca la potencia de la carga distorsionante a la del transformador y puede llegar a ser absolutamente intolerable cuando el generador no es la red p\u00fablica sino un grupo electr\u00f3geno.<\/p>\n<p>Es necesario entonces lograr que las impedancias &#8220;encontradas&#8221; por estas corrientes sean lo m\u00e1s peque\u00f1as posibles. Las corrientes de tercer arm\u00f3nico (frecuencia triple de la fundamental) y sus m\u00faltiplos constituyen, en un sistema trif\u00e1sico, componentes de secuencia cero y la impedancia involucrada es la de secuencia cero. Los reactores en zig-zag tienen impedancias de secuencia cero que pueden ser muy bajas, por lo que impiden o al menos aten\u00faan la aparici\u00f3n de los correspondientes arm\u00f3nicos de tensi\u00f3n. Funcionan, por tanto, como compensadores arm\u00f3nicos para las cargas no lineales.
